DAVID LACHAPELLE PARTY WITH MAYBACH AT ART BASEL 2009

DAVID LACHAPELLE FOR MAYBACH AT ART BASEL 2009

Ranked among the top ten most important people in photography in the world by American Photo, David LaChapelle has forged a unique, original and unmistakable style that sets his images apart from the rest. LaChapelle has worked for the most prestigious publications and has held exhibitions in both commercial galleries and leading public institutions worldwide including: Tony Shafrazi Gallery, New York; Deitch Projects, New York; LaMonnaie de Paris, France; Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, Mexico City; Artmosphere, Vienna; Camerawork, Germany; The Helmut Newton Foundation, Berlin; Maruani & Noirhomme, Belgium; Sozzani and Palazzo reale, Italy; and the Barbican Museum in London.

This year at Art Basel LaChapelle created the Berlin Stories; a compelling series of images themed around New Years Eve 1932. The works were commisioned by German Automaker Maybach, to celebrate and commemorate their historic and contemporary line of luxury cars for their Daimler Art Collection.  In celebration of the images, Maybach threw the most opulent party of the season, hosted at The Raleigh in South Beach; the event was themed to fit the 1932 New Year’s Eve Party depicted in Berlin Stories with the images adorning the walls.

The party was one of the wilder events at Art Basel, with New Year’s 1932 being celebrated with sparklers, New Year’s hats, the pool diving boys, and overall mayhem…
