DIOR HOMME – PARIS S/S 2012 FASHION SHOW

“Less and More,” the newest mens collection for Dior Homme spring/summer 2012 shone in its minimalism. Kris Van Assche, still at the helm chez Dior Homme, clearly tends to steer in a different direction from Galliano’s extravagance that lasted years and ended in a swift exit from the Dior Haute Couture and Womens ready to wear. Van Assche, who has been leading Dior Homme since 2007 consistently keeps tailoring and precision in the forefront, however, leaving out all surprises.

The jackets and coats took the spot light in the show that took place near the edge of Paris. Tapering  in particular seemed to reign accross the board, from the batwing sleeves to whole silhouettes with shirts and jackets closed tightly around the neck to open loosely at the waist.

Sleek and rich, the fabrics used, such as a stunning creamy lambskin trim, contrasted with the more rough styling and edgy details, such as the ring closures. These little rings at first appear to be almost like body piercings, but no, in fact, those are the buttons. Scattered throughout the collection on double breasted jackets and as the single closure on the top of the lapel, leaving the bottom half of the jacket to flutter open. Mini lapels on some pieces give off a mod feeling that returns to the illusions of roughness. It’s not actual roughness, this is Dior after all. Paired with leather wrist cuffs and wide brimmed dark hats, Dior has created a new breed of refined mod.
