ELIE SAAB HAUTE COUTURE – PARIS S/S 2012 FASHION SHOW

Elie Saab is on to something good, and he knows it. His Spring/Summer 2012 Couture collection is essentially variations on the same long and sleek silhouette. In a range of light and springtime hued pastels, Saab picks up on the mint green trend that is catching on like wildfire and surrounds it with other baby blues, soft pinks, peaches, yellow and nude taupe. While most gowns are floor lengths, Saab punctuates the collection with a few frocks cut tastefully right above the knee. The necklines also ranged from deep slits to broad boat necks, and the sleeves went from long to just past the shoulder.

The beauty of Elie Saab, and what draws celebrities like Jessica Biel, who recently caught a fair amount of great publicity for the designer with her Golden Globe dress, is the simplicity of a perfectly cut dress, that depending on how plunging you prefer your neckline, or how modest, or how not modest you prefer the transparency of your ensemble to be… There is something for everyone. His style, especially with this new collection draws on the simple beauty of old Hollywood glamour and femininity and then softens it, adds new quartz like hues in keeping with the time, sparkles them to pieces, and almost guarantees a successful evening. These dresses are the embodiment of how many women would like to feel – sexy, daring, and still classically beautiful.
