IVANAHELSINKI – NEW YORK S/S 2011 FASHION SHOW

IVANAHELSINKI COLLECTION VIDEO

“Where The Fuck Is My Sailor?” Was the question at the New York debut of the Finnish fashion/art brand IVANAhelsinki. Helsinki born designer & filmmaker Paola Suhonen is the multi-talented artist behind IVANAHelsinki. The company was originally conceived to be a personal art project “that could be the frame for different creative works, road trips, films.” The company is highlighted by uniquely feminine knits that are manufactured in Finland and the hand knits come from Lapland. Just like its knit wear unique pieces and small series productions are also made in Suhonen’s hometown of Helsinki at the company’s atelier.

Only wishing to be considered a designer and not a fashion designer, Suhonen creates clothing that can be timeless, durable, and comfortable to wear. This is evident in her Spring / Summer Collection which mixes her Scandinavian roots with 60’s and 70’s styles, with a retro twist in trademark prints featuring anchor motifs lifted from old-school Sailor tattoo designs. In each look there was an extreme attention to detail with hand printed dresses and rope embroidery.
