During this year’s Frieze Art Fair 2011, Lazarides Gallery returned to The Old Vic Tunnels with the exhibit The Minotaur which opened on October 10th . The maze-like installation was inspired by the ancient Greek legend of The Minotaur, the labyrinth-dwelling, half-bull, half-man creature. Gallery owner Steve Lazarides commissioned a selection of international artists to create their own vision of the ancient myth, which was then curated into a labyrinth of installations. Artists included Stanley Donwood, Jonathan Yeo, Antony Micallef, Conor Harrington, Doug Foster, 3D, Ian Francis, ATMA, Zevs, Michael Najjar and Lucy McLauchlan. The atmosphere of the dark, damp Old Vic Tunnels added to the viewer’s experience of the mysterious – and at times gruesome! – interpretations of the Greek myth. Upon entry, visitors were handed a map of the exhibit to decrease their chances of getting lost.

Steve Lazarides is credited with a revival in visually powerful art capable of tantalising and sometimes assaulting the senses of the viewer.

As the London Restaurant Festival was also on, Lazarides Gallery collaborated with German-based catering company Kofler and Kompanie to present ‘Pret A Diner’. Pret A Diner is a pop-up dining concept that included a rotating line-up of Michelin–approved German-based chefs such as Juan Amador, Matthias Schmidt and Ollysan.
